Luber, Mavis I. (31 JUL 1925 – 1 NOV 2016)

Mavis I. Luber, 91, Loyal, passed away at House of the Dove in Marshfield, on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Friday, Nov. 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal. Rev. Daniel Zimmerman officiated. Burial followed in the Loyal Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were Harvey Baumbach, Daniel Baumbach, Jeff Seltun, Dave Fricke, Larry Rueth and Dave Luber.

Mavis Ida Otto was born on July 31, 1925, in the town of Beaver, rural Loyal, the daughter of George and Mathilda (nee Dallmann) Otto. She was raised on the family farm and received her education in the Loyal area, graduating from Loyal High School in 1943. After high school, Mavis moved to Milwaukee where she worked for a short time before returning to Loyal. She married Allen L. Luber on Sept. 7, 1946, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal. Together they farmed and raised their family in the town of Beaver. She was also very active in the Loyal American Legion, where she worked for more than 20 years as a cook and helping at various events. They retired in 1999 and sold the farm to their son, Jeff. She continued to live on the farm until shortly before her death. Mavis was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, its TLCW, and started the Meal-with-a-Peel dinner with Ina Miller. She was also a member of the Loyal American Legion Auxiliary, the Trim & Tidy Homemakers Club, and served as the chaplain for the Clark County American Legion Auxiliary from 1995-2008. She had many interests, but especially loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, playing cards and games, and her dog, Boomer.

Mavis will be dearly missed by her children: Barbara (Everett) Sherman of Viola, Ariz., Keith Luber of Loyal, Carol (Harvey) Baumbach of Osseo, and Jeff Luber of Loyal; two grandchildren: Valerie (Jeff) Seltun of Stillwater, Minn., and Daniel (Sarah) Baumbach of Eau Claire; one step-great-granddaughter: Faith Seltun of Eau Claire; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Allen, on Dec. 4, 2012; three brothers: Paul Otto, and Norman & Walter Otto in infancy; and two sisters: Alma Pieper and LaVerna Litka.
