Heier, Dennis L. (23 DEC 1947 - 30 MAR 2010)

Dennis L. Heier, 62, Athens, died Tuesday March 30, 2010 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 3, 2010 at the Community Hall, Athens. The Very Rev. Charles Heibl will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call on Friday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens, and again on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the Community Hall. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Athens funeral home.

He was born December 23, 1947, in Wausau, son of Christina (Bangart) Heier, Milwaukee and the late George Heier. On February 10, 1972, he married Nancy Rodman at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. She preceded him in death.

In the late 70's Dennis worked as a carpenter in the state of Alaska. Later, he owned and operated Mr. D's bar in Athens until 1997 and currently was employed at Menzner Lumber and Supply.

Dennis was an avid outdoorsman and fishing with his brothers, family and friends as well as hunting with his children, family and friends were his favorite pasttimes. He also enjoyed coin collecting, garage saling, spending time with his children and grandchildren. Dennis will be remembered fondly for his woodworking skills, spending time up north at Lake Nokomis, driving the backroads, shining deer, planting trees and picking asparagas. His famous turtle soup will be a special memory for many.

Survivors include his mother, Christina Heier, Milwaukee, Children, Carrie Heier (Russell) Athens, Hunna (Josh) Syring, Stratford, Barry (Kristin Krueger and Isaiah) Heier, Wausau, Teri (Timothy) Schult, Wausau, grandchildren, Brock and Emma Syring as well as his hunting partner and companion, Bailey. He is also survived by his siblings, Duane Heier and James Heier, both of Athens, Mary Jane (Roland) Rydlewicz, Milwaukee, Ann (Leslie) Westfall, John G. (Teresa) Heier, and Joseph Heier, all of Athens.

He was preceded in death by his father George Heier. His wife, Nancy preceded him in death March 17, 2001. Her cremated remains will be buried with Dennis in Calvary Cemetery on Saturday.
