He was born on September 12, 1943, son of Norma (Werner) and Alvin C. Dix of Stratford. He attended Stratford Public Schools where he loved to play and watch sports. Although only five foot seven inches, he excelled in basketball. In early 1960 he broke the Stratford High School single game basketball scoring record by scoring 45 points in a game. The following week he broke his previous record by scoring 47 points. This was quite an accomplishment since it was before the 3 point field goal was in effect.

Upon graduating from Stratford High School in 1961, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater graduating from Whitewater in 1965 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in accounting and economics. He continued his education at the University of Wisconsin - Madison in the accounting graduate program.

During this time Jim began his career with the Wisconsin Department of Revenue in Madison where he worked for 41 plus years before retiring on June 30, 2006. Thirty nine plus years of his career at DOR was spent working in the corporate tax area dealing with large multi-state corporations. The only interruption of his DOR service was the time he spent serving his country in the US army and visiting Vietnam in October 1968 through October 1969.

Jim lived in Waunakee until his retirement when moved to Edgar where he and his wife, Karen, had built a new home. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Waunakee and served as financial secretary/elder for nine years for the church. He served on the village of Waunakee Planning Commission for 20 years and was member of American Legion Post 360 of Waunakee. After moving to Edgar he joined the VFW Post #6352 of Stratford.

On February 8, 2003, Jim married the former Karen (Sonnentag) Schumacker of Edgar who survives. He is survived by his children from an earlier marriage, Jeffry (Cheyanne) Dix and grandson, Keagan, Poynette, Jacquelyn Dix of Madison and Jamie (fiance', Joseph Scharenbroch) Dix of Janesville, 3 stepchildren Steven (Angeline) Schumacker, Edgar, Laurie (Andy) Pagel, Merrill, Glen Schumacker, Edgar, a brother Rev.
