Cattanach, Barbara Jane (7 March 1951 – 27 January 2017)

Barbara Cattanach, 65, of Neillsville died Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

Barbara Jane Stelter was born March 7, 1951, in Neillsville, the daughter of Frederick and Elizabeth (Embke) Stelter. She attended St. John’s Lutheran Grade School and graduated from Neillsville High School in 1969. She then went to work in the UW-Extension office at the courthouse before transferring to the sheriff’s department, where she worked as a dispatcher and secretary. Barb then moved to the district attorney’s office and worked as a legal secretary. She was also the victim/witness coordinator before moving to the child support agency, and working her way up to the director of child support. She was united in marriage to Mark Cattanach Feb. 10, 1990, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville. She retired from the courthouse in 2013.

Barb was a member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Globe. She loved her animals, especially her dogs, and would travel throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota and South Dakota taking them to agility trials, and for many years visiting hospitals with her therapy dogs. In her spare time, she enjoyed tending to her flowers and gardening. She was very good at doing crafts and was a talented artist. Most important to her, though, was being able to spend time with her precious grandsons.

She is survived by her husband, Mark; two children, Heather (Todd Jensen) Klein of Neillsville and Ryan (Tanya) Pagenkopf of Loyal; three grandsons, Ashtin, Karston, and Kolton Pagenkopf; five siblings, Diane (Stanley) Blaskowski of Stratford, Frederick Stelter of Neillsville, Sandra (Richard) Kren of Watertown, Linda (Daniel) Krehmeyer of Neillsville and Yevonne (David) Herron of Marshfield; a brother-in-law, Donald Walker of Neillsville; and many nieces, and nephews and her beloved dogs, Reba, Libby, Buzzy, Charlee and Kenny and cats, Cedar and Boo-Boo.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Gail Walker.

A Memorial Service for Barb will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville. Pastor John Warmuth will officiate. Visitation was from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Online condolences may be made at www.geschefh.com.  The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Barb’s family with funeral arrangements.
