Schauer, Donald E. (29 DEC 1930 – 11 FEB 2017)

Donald E. Schauer, age 86, of Abbotsford, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Golden Living Center-Continental Manor in Abbotsford.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. The Rev. Mark Neumann will officiate. Military Honors will be provided by the Colby VFW Post #2227. Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Colby is entrusted with the arrangements.

Don was born on December 29, 1930 the son of Oscar and Martha (Hanne) Schauer in Green Grove. He graduated from Abbotsford High School in 1948. Don served in the U. S. Air Force stationed in Korea. On October 23, 1954, Don was united in marriage to Stella Venzke in Milan. He worked at Kraft Foods in Milan as a supervisor for 40 years.

Don was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. He owned a 40 acre hobby farm and enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, wine making, playing cards and throwing horseshoes. He also followed the Packers and Badgers and school sporting events. Don especially loved being with his children and grandchildren.

Don is survived by his wife, Stella of Colby; four children: Burt (Theresa) Schauer of Spencer, Gary (Patty) Schauer of Holcombe, Nancy Schauer of Tomahawk and Todd (Peggy) Schauer of Tomahawk; nine grandchildren: Stephanie Schauer, Joshua Schauer, Travis (Trisha) Schauer, Kelly (Corey) Demulling, Dustin (Ashley) Schauer, Jacob (Katie) Luther, Isaac Luther, Tiffany Schauer and Mitchell Schauer; seven great-grandchildren: Cal, Max, Dane, Reed, Samantha, Brooklynn and Aiden. He is further survived by his brother, Willard (Pat) Schauer of Abbotsford and his sister, Francis (Arvin) Gosse of Abbotsford; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ruth Bunkelman.
