Kathy J. Lastinger, 62, of Smithville, TN, and formerly of Tomah, passed away Feb. 28, 2017, in Smithville, TN, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Feb. 18, 1955, to Mark and Cora (Foley) Lastinger. She was a member of the Tomah High School Class of 1973. Kathy was united in marriage to Terry Hatfield June 23, 1973. Together they raised three children. He preceded her in death March 29, 2010.

Kathy worked at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Tomah for several years as a certified nursing assistant. She later was employed at Fort McCoy in the housekeeping and food service departments, and as a caregiver at the Evergreen manor in Necedah. After Terry’s passing in 2010, Kathy relocated to Smithville, TN, to be closer to family. She had a kind and caring heart and loved spending as much time as possible with her children, and especially her beloved grandchildren. Keeping up with her grandchildren’s daily activities on Facebook was one of her most frequent pastimes; she also enjoyed family gatherings, and playing bingo.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be sadly missed by those that loved her.

She is survived by her children Jeffery Hatfield of Smithville, TN, Michelle (Wally) Crawford of Necedah, and Theresa Hatfield of Smithville, TN; five grandchildren, Katelyn (Mid, Jr.) Sutherland, Terri Hillriegel, Christpher Hillriegel, Makiah Hatfield, and Damion Hatfield; three great-grandchildren, Gracie Sutherland, Kendall Sutherland, and Middie Sutherland; her mother Cora “Jean” Lastinger; two brothers, Johnny Lastinger of West Palm Beach, FL, and Steve (Cindy) Lastinger of Birmingham, AL; a very special caregiver, Amy Bowman; many other nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Mark Lastinger; her former husband, Terry Hatfield; her paternal grandparents, Mike, and Ina Foley; a great grandson, Aiden Michael Briley; a brother, Kevin Lee Lastinger; and a sister Sandra Mae Studer.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau Street, Tomah. Pastor Daren DeFord will officiate.
