Simurdiak, Rheta Barbara (Kurth) Nurminen (12 JUN 1928 - 6 JUL 2017)

Rheta Barbara Simurdiak, 89, Medford, died in the Aspirus Care and Rehab Center in Medford on Thursday, July 6, 2017.

She was born in Marshfield, Wisconsin, on June 12, 1928, the daughter of Frank and Martha (Weyers) Kurth. She was married to Harry Peker in December of 1947 and he preceded her in death in 1974. She was married to Rudy Nurminen on September 23, 1992, and he preceded her in death on December 13, 1992. She was married to Steve Simurdiak in May of 1995, and he preceded her in death on July 17, 1997.

She served as a foster mother for 13 years. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Catawba, later of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church of Phillips, and most recently of Holy Rosary Catholic Church of Medford. In her free time she enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking, and baking.

She is survived by three grandchildren; by one brother, Jerome (Jeanette) Kurth, Marshfield; and by two sisters, Joyce Lukes, Catawba and Mary Ann Protovinsky, Kennan.

In addition to her husbands, she is preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Peker; by two brothers, Marvin Kurth and Vincent Kurth; and by two sisters, Kathryn Koehler and Patsy Peterson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 12, at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Catawba with Father Gerald Hagen celebrating the Funeral Mass. Interment will be in the Saint Paul’s Cemetery in Catawba. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
