Schoelzel, Jerold Elroy “Jerry” (13 AUG 1929 - 1 AUG 2017)

Jerold Elroy “Jerry” Schoelzel, age 87, of Cassville, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017.


He was born Aug. 13, 1929, in Colby, the son of Rudolph August and Olivia (Guttenberg) Schoelzel.

On Feb. 14, 1953, in Burlington, Wis., he was united in marriage to Joan Mabel Oetting, who survives. Also surviving are four sons, Jeffery Allen Schoelzel and Debbie Evans of Granby, Mo., Jay Michael Schoelzel and Stacey Cochran of Cassville, Mo., Jon Matthew Schoelzel and his wife, Jamie, of Cassville, Mo., and James Patrick Schoelzel of Cassville, Mo.; four daughters, Janet Lee DeShazer and her husband, Mark, of Wheaton, Mo., Jean Neal and her husband, Darrell, of Baxter Springs, Kan., Judy Lynn Rodriguez and her husband, José of Rocky Comfort, Mo., and Jerricay Dyer and her husband, David, of Butterfield, Mo.; two brothers, Darnell Schoelzel and his wife, Janice, and Ronnie Schoelzel Sr. all of Colby; four sisters, Darlene Watchendonk of Stevens Point, Connie Stein of Minn., Sandy Hudak of Marshfield and Emerita Phillips of Abbotsford; twenty-two grandchildren; and twenty-nine great-grandchildren.

His son, Justin “Dusty” Schoelzel, also passed away Aug. 1, 2017. Preceding him in death were his parents, eight brothers and six sisters.

Jerry grew up and received his education in Wisconsin and graduated from Colby High School. Forty years ago he moved from Antioch, Ill., to Cassville to make his home. For several years he was employed as a machinist at Fasco and also farmed. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Cassville. Some of his favorite pastimes were farming, being with family, reading and woodworking.

They can be made to Monett Area Sheltered Workshop, 204 Central Ave., Monett, Mo. 65625 or can be made in care of the Workshop at Fohn Funeral Home, 1303 Main St., Cassville, MO 65625.
