Koziol, John Larry (19 AUG 1948 - 7 SEP 2017)

John Larry Koziol, 69, died Sept. 7, 2017. John was born Aug. 19, 1948, in Chicago, Ill., the firstborn son of Larry and Natalie Koziol.

He initially grew up in Chicago, Ill., but moved to Holcombe when he was 7 years old, after his father purchased the Stamper Brothers logging mill on the lake’s south shore and built a fishing resort.

John attended Holcombe High School, where during his senior year, was elected captain of the football team and prom king. After graduating in the class of 1966, he became the first in his family to go to college, attending the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. John then dedicated himself to helping run the family business.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt, scuba dive and water ski. He enjoyed the time he spent with friends on the water or behind the bar at Larry’s South Shore Resort, the lakefront resort where he and his parents welcomed sportsmen and families for more than 50 years.

John was a devoted son. After selling the resort in 2006, he became the primary caregiver for his mother and father through illness and the end of their lives. During the last years of his life, John enjoyed his retirement, especially visiting family and friends across the United States.

He is survived by his sister – Linda (Richard) Kramer; brother – Jerry Koziol; aunts – Helen (Joe) Buszta and Violet (Albert) Crocetti; uncle – John (Delores) Koziol; nieces – Ashley (Kirk) Andrews and Nicole (Nathan) Lange; nephew – Christopher (Bobbi) Koziol; beloved cousins, nephews and great-nephews, and many cherished friends.

A memorial service will be held at Borton-Leiser Funeral Home in Cornell, Saturday, Sept. 16, at noon. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Dove Community Foundation, 2217 Duncan Road, Bloomer, WI 54724.
