Webster, Arlene R. (Wilcox) (20 AUG 1931 - 16 JUL 2015)

Arlene R. Webster, 83, of Gilman, died on Thursday, July 16, 2015, at the Cornell Care Center under the care of Hope Hospice. Funeral services were Monday, July 20 at Zion Lutheran Church in Gilman. Burial followed in the Donald Cemetery. Visitation was held at the Gilman Funeral Home.

The former Arlene Wilcox was born on August 20, 1931 in the Lancaster area the daughter of the late Claude and Elizabeth (Orr) Wilcox. Arlene’s family moved to the Mt. Hope area when she was five and she graduated from Mt. Hope High in 1949.

She married Donald Webster on September 28, 1949 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple farmed in Grant County for seven years before moving to the Webster home farm in Donald where they owned and operated a dairy farm for the next 42 years. Arlene also graduated from the Teacher’s College in Medford in 1967 and Mt. Senario College in Ladysmith with her teaching Bachelor degree. She taught 3rd grade for 24 years at Lake Holcombe elementary.

Arlene traveled extensively taking 25 tours all around the world. She was a longtime Sunday school teacher for Zion Lutheran Church, a member of the Red Hat Society, the Garden Club and a volunteer at the Gilman library. Arlene also enjoyed her summers in Hayward, reading and puzzles.

She is survived by her children, Linda (Pete) Hinzman of Menomonie, Doug (Bev Karpinski) Webster of Gilman, Richard (Tammy) Webster of Cornell, Dennis Webster of Gilman, Susan (Ted) Kotlowski of Hudson, Duane (Amy) Webster of Ladysmith and Darlene (Jon) Shorougian of Waukesha; 20 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren with one on the way; one brother, Ivan Wilcox of Boscobel; and many nieces and nephews.

Arlene is preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents, two grandsons, Kirby and Daniel Webster; 3 brothers, Laverne, Francis and Leo Wilcox; and one sister, Wilma Waterman.
