Buss, Chester G. (11 AUG 1920 - 3 JAN 2018)

Chester G. Buss, age 97, of Abbotsford, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Marshfield Medical Center.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Milan. Rev. Dr. Gary Paul will officiate. Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the church. His great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers: Zackary Brusky, Isaac Hammel, Olivia Hammel and Ashton Hammel.

Chester was born on August 11, 1920, the son of George and Elizabeth (Miller) Buss in the Town of Holton. As a youth, he attended Bruckerville Grade School. On August 28, 1943, Chester was united in marriage to Lillian Venzke at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Milan. They were married for 68 years and had one son, Russell. She preceded him in death on December 15, 2011. He bought the family farm in 1946 and farmed it for 40 years, then he sold it to his grandson, Warren.

Chester was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Milan where he served as financial secretary for many years. He also served on the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery Board for 50 years. Chester served on the Bruckerville School Board and was also constable and assessor for the Town of Holton.

He enjoyed playing sheepshead, hunting, fishing and just being in the woods. Chester was also a member of the Bethlehem dartball team for many years.

Chester is survived by his son, Russell (Shirley) Buss of Athens; two grandchildren; Warren Buss of Abbotsford and Patricia (Shane) Hammel of Abbotsford; grandson-in-law, John Baeten of DePere. He is further survived by four great-grandchildren: Zackary Brusky, Isaac, Olivia and Ashton Hammel; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elizabeth; his wife, Lillian; three brothers: Jim Buss, Raymond Olson and Edward Olson; three sisters: Adeline Yost, Beatrice Opitz and Marie Fritsch; a granddaughter; Cheryl Baeten, a grandson; Gary Buss and two great-grandchildren, Jack Baeten and Anthony Hammel.

Memorials can be designated to Bethlehem Lutheran Church Building Fund.
