Geissler, Amanda Rae (11 JUN 1984 - 31 DEC 2017)

Amanda Rae Geissler, 33, of Chippewa Falls died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, in Costa Rica.

She was born in Chippewa Falls June 11, 1984, the daughter of Jeffrey and Cheryl (Gabrovic) Geissler. She graduated from Thorp High School and University of Wisconsin-Stout and later earned her MBA at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Amanda was currently working for Backroads, a travel company that specialized in unique, outdoor activities. She had the opportunity to share adventures with families by sailing from island to island in the Adriatic Sea, walking El Camino de Santiago through Portugal and Spain, and hiking, biking, and white-water rafting in Costa Rica.

Amanda, along with her sister, Lindsey, played basketball from an early age and ended her basketball career playing for the University of Wisconsin-Stout. She had a competitive spirit, outstanding leadership ability, and had a gift for bringing people together. Amanda’s mental toughness was evident when she completed The Great Wall of China Marathon, competed in Ironman Wisconsin, and led UW-Stout to three WIAC Conference Championships.

Amanda’s kindness, love, and judgment-free acceptance was clear to her family, friends, and everyone she met.

Amanda is survived by her parents, Jeffrey and Cheryl Geissler; her sister and brother-in-law, Lindsey and Derek Carlyle; her grandmother, Elaine Gabrovic; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bernard and Shirley (Yohnk) Geissler; and her uncles, Charles, Bernard J., and Dennis Geissler.

On Amanda’s Blog, www.thischickiknow.wordpress.com on June 26, 2017, she wrote, “I want those I love to understand why I choose experiences. It’s what makes me feel alive. I would challenge anyone that their best memories were part of some type of adventure. Whether they intended to adventure or not.”

Amanda’s encouragement to all was: “Write it down. Whatever it is. And make it happen.” A memorial Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 810 Pearl St., Chippewa Falls. A celebration of Amanda’s life will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. at Leinie’s Lodge, 124 E. Elm St., Chippewa Falls.

Any donations can be made to the “Amanda Geissler Memorial Fund.” All donations will be used to start a foundation in honor of Amanda, and flower arrangements can be sent to St. Charles Church.
