Olney, Matt (16 FEB 1897 – 23 JAN 1971)

Matt Olney, 73, Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), died unexpectedly of acute coronary thrombosis January 23, 1971 at 6:30 a.m.

Funeral services were held at St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, Thorp, on Tuesday, January 26, with Father Matzek Walijewski officiating.

Interment was made in St. Hedwig's cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Adam Szerlong, Robert Olson, Vernon Harycki, Frank Burzynski, Frank Winiarczyk, Henry Cieslek.

Mr. Olney was born February 16, 1897 at Joliet, Illinois. At the age of 7 he came to thorp with his parents, where they settled on a farm north of Thorp. He was married to Pearl Glowacki of Thorp October 30, 1922, and they made their home north of Thorp, where he was in the lumber business and ran a sawmill. He moved to Thorp in 1957, where he resided until his death.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl, and two infant sons, and is survived by his widow, Jewell Olney, whom he was united in marriage with April 21, 1956. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, and three daughters, Joseph Paul Olejniczak of Thorp, Henry Leon Olney of Chicago, Illinois, Marian Alice Plunkett of Santa Ana, California, Florence Dorothy De Giorgio of Santa Clara, California, Clara Margaret Peterson of La Crosse, Wisconsin; three sisters, Cecelia Burzynski of Thorp, Martha Szerlong of Thorp, Josephine Danielson of Chicago, Illinois; two brothers, Albert of Chicago, Frank of Lublin; and 14 grandchildren.
