Christianson, Eleanor L. (Hanson) (22 JUL 1925 - 1 FEB 2018)

Oh how long you have suffered and endured, but now you have been released to the comfort and peace of God’s arms.

Eleanor L. (Hanson) Christianson passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the age of 92 at Dove Healthcare West in Eau Claire. Eleanor “Ellie” was born in Fargo, North Dakota on July 22, 1925. Her family moved to different cities in western Wisconsin. She graduated at the age of 16 from Cadott High School.

She was a go getter and high achiever. Eleanor became one of very few women supervisors in the mid-west during the early 1950’s while working at National Presto Arms Plant. She was secretary of the PTA and a charter member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, president of the Women’s Auxiliary, and president of the Altar Guild. Eleanor had a beautiful singing voice and could play the piano by ear. She was also a strong advocate for animal rights.

On November 22, 1944, she married Linward N. Christianson and they were married for 59 years. From this union one girl and two boys were born. They gave up suburban life and moved to the farm on Priory Road in January 1957 raising beef cattle and hogs of which she was a working partner. Eleanor liked giving names to the cattle. After Linward passed, her children encouraged her to move off the farm. In 2007, she moved into the Good Shepherd Senior Apartments enjoying the family type atmosphere until October 2017.

Eleanor is survived by her children, Sharon Farley of Eau Claire, Ronald (Ada) Christianson of Chippewa Falls, and Steven (Peggy) Christianson of Marshfield; grandchildren, Calvin (Halena) Farley, Connie Hayden, Ashley (Seth) Short, and Austin Christianson; great grandchildren, Makoy and Jordee Short, Caleena and Coreena Farley; brother, Arnold Hanson; sister-in-law, Mary Hanson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is also survived by her beloved, faithful companion of 12 years, Benji.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Linward; parents, Alvin and Caroline (Peterson) Hanson; sister, Bernice (Ralph) Holt; brothers, Glenn Odin, Norman (Vera) and Victor Hanson; sisters-in-law, Nada (Oswald) and Charlotte (Art) Christianson; nieces, Joanne Holt and NanJean Anderson; and nephew, Jeff Holt.

The family would like to thank St. Joseph’s Hospice Care team of nurse, John, massage therapist, Karen, the bath lady, Wendy, who could make Mom laugh, and social worker, Anna, plus the caring staff of the Dove Health Care Reflections unit. Also Visiting Angels and Senior Helping Seniors who helped care for Eleanor while at home, as well Shelly.

Funeral Service will be held 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd with Reverend Josh Toufar officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at church on Tuesday. Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Town of Washington. Evergreen Funeral Home is serving the family.
