David F. Stevens, 89 of Bruce died on Tuesday, January 30th, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire.

He is survived by his wife, Louise; 2 sons, Craig & Rosemary and Arnold & Laura both of Bruce; 1 daughter, Anne McHugh of Bruce and 4 grandchildren.

David Stevens' family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday, February 5th, 2018 at the Nash-Jackan Funeral Home in Bruce.

David F. Stevens, 89, of Bruce, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018. He spent all of his life, from birth until death, in the home his father built on Amacoy Lake Road south of Bruce.

Dave was born on Oct. 21, 1928 in Bruce, the son of the late Burt and Olga (Johnson) Stevens. He graduated from Bruce High School as the salutatorian of the class of 1946. He and his wife Louise (Woodmansee) were married on Nov. 10, 1951.

They were dairy farmers and owned and operated Stevens Lumber and Supply in Weyerhaeuser with their sons Kerry and Craig from 1971 to 2016. Dave also worked for Blaine’s Farm and Fleet in Rice Lake and drove school bus for Bruce schools for over 45 years.

Dave couldn’t go anywhere in northern Wisconsin without running into someone he knew and striking up a conversation. Like a good Norwegian, he never went a day without coffee.
He loved deer hunting, catfishing at “the clam pile” on the Chippewa River, ice fishing on Amacoy Lake, going to bingo at LCO and Lac du Flambeau with Louise and playing cards. He always had an ace up his sleeve and was sure to teach his grandchildren that being dealt both the “high” and “low” in smear is always a 4 bid. He took great pride in caring for his lawn, tending the wood stove and going for daily drives with Louise and their dog.

David will be fondly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Louise; his sons, Craig (Rosemary) Stevens and Arnold (Laura) Stevens and his daughter Anne McHugh, all of Bruce; his daughter-in-law, Sandra Stevens of Weyerhaeuser; and grandchildren, Jaclyn McHugh, Lee Stevens, Jared McHugh, Evan Stevens, Chantell Hendrix, Kenny Funk, Janice Funk, Tim Woodford, Beth Cavanaugh and Todd Davis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Burt Stevens, and his son, Kerry Stevens.

A funeral service in loving memory of David was held at Nash-Jackan Funeral Home in Bruce on Monday, Feb. 5.
