Weiler, Ruth D. (Dowden) (15 JUL 1932 - 17 MAY 2018)

Ruth D. Weiler, 85, of Unity, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at the Colonial Center in Colby.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 2 at Saint Mary Help of Christian Parish in Colby with Father Joseph Redfern officiating. Interment will follow at Perkinstown Cemetery.

The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Colby is entrusted with arrangements.

Ruth was born on July 15, 1932, the daughter of Plennie and Anna (Sommers) Dowden, in Milwaukee. She was raised in Milwaukee and moved to Medford in 1942 where she attended normal school and was a graduate of Medford High School. Ruth attended Stevens Point Teachers College and earned a teaching degree. She began her teaching career at Saint Anthony’s Catholic School in Athens and later at Spencer Elementary School for almost 40 years. On Sept. 3, 1955, Ruth was united in marriage to George Weiler at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford. She was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Colby.

Ruth enjoyed antiques, flea markets, rummage sales, flowers, feeding the birds and squirrels, collecting china, plates, bowls, glass, angels, cookie jars and coffee pots.

Ruth is survived by several family members and her special friend, Riko the dog.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George, on Dec. 31, 1991; and several siblings.

The family requests memorials go to St. Mary Parish.

Ruth’s family would like to thank the staff at the Colonial Center in Colby for the wonderful care Ruth received.
