Luchterhand, Ruth A. (4 FEB 1927 – 11 JUN 2018)

Ruth Ann Luchterhand, 91, Loyal, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018. An intimate celebration of life will be held at Melvin and Ruth’s home in Loyal at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 15.

Ruth was born on Feb. 4, 1927, to Ben and Esther (nee Hoffman) Skoog, in Dorchester. She attended school in Greenwood through grade 8. Ruth married Melvin Luchterhand, the love of her life, on June 8, 1946. Through the years, Ruth had several jobs including the canning factory in Spokeville and Weyerhauser, farming, and later in life maintaining Trinity Lutheran Church, from where she retired. All of these things brought her great joy. Ruth enjoyed spending time grooming the yard, collecting dishware, crocheting each one of her grandkids afghans, sewing block quilts, baking, spending time with her homemaker group, and hosting holidays with her beloved family.

Ruth is survived by her children: Donna (Rich) Karl, and Dale (Fay) Luchterhand; her five grandchildren: Karen (Jeff), Kristi, Jessica (Tony), Brady, and Ben (Rebekah); and five great-grandchildren: Mark, David, Emily, Ella, and Addison.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Esther Skoog; and a daughter, Debbie Lou Luchterhand.

One of Ruth’s favorite passages and what she wanted to remind those who love her is as follows: “Remember me with smiles and laughter for that’s how I’ll remember you all. Remember me with tears and don’t remember me at all.”
