John D. “Jack” Fulwiler, 79, Loyal, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018, at the Marshfield Medical Center. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Aug. 28, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Loyal. Rev. Leo Stanislaus officiated, and burial followed in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery.

John Douglas Fulwiler was born on Oct. 22, 1938, in Loyal, to Edward and Lydia (nee Miller) Fulwiler. He was raised and received his education in Loyal, graduating from Loyal High School in 1957. After high school, Jack enlisted into the U.S. Army on May 28, 1957, and served until his honorable discharge on May 22, 1959. He returned to Loyal and worked various jobs, including Rollohome in Spencer, delivering mail for the Post Office, and working for Bill Rellis at the IGA grocery store. He married Sherry S. Davidson at St. Anthony Catholic Church on Jan. 26, 1963. In 1980, they bought the Loyal IGA grocery store from Dawn Dering, which they owned and operated until retiring in 2003. After retiring from the grocery business, Jack picked up milk samples and enjoyed driving cars for Domines. Jack was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, where he served on the church council. He was a charter member of the Loyal Lions Club, served on the Loyal City Council, was one of the first volunteers for the Loyal ambulance, and was a past Boy Scout leader. He had many interests, but especially loved spending time with his family and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s school related events, hunting and fishing when he was younger, reading, traveling, and weekend trips with his wife.

Jack will be dearly missed by his wife, Sherry, of Loyal; five children: Rhonda Fulwiler of Loyal, Michael (Charlene) Fulwiler of Loyal, Karla (Ted) Strebe of Marshfield, Karyn (Doug) Brock of Wisconsin Rapids, and Kim (Royal) Bauman of Shelbyville, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren: Preston and Joel Fulwiler, Jennah (Matt) Stark, Logan and Emileigh Fulwiler, John (Kelley) Strebe, Megan (Lucas) Ruchti, Jake, Jesse and Melissa Strebe, Erin Best, David (Jen) Potapenko, Michael (Kayla) Bauman, and Michelle Bauman; seven great-grandchildren: Dominic, Macie, Kyra, Anthony, Isaac, Marli and Bayli; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Harold, Robert, and Lawrence Fulwiler; and five sisters: Irene Irvin, Alice Miedaner, Isabelle Sigler, Carol Siegel, and Dorothy Picraux.
