Karlen, Clarence B. (9 APR 1917 - 12 NOV 2003)

Clarence B. Karlen, 86, 813 S. Third Ave. Edgar, died Wednesday, November 12, 2003, at his home.

He was born April 9, 1917 in Marathon, son of the late Louis and Mary (Heil) Karlen. On May 14, 1941 he married Loretta Marie Wirkus at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. She preceded him in death on February 24, 1996.

Clarence farmed in the town of Cassel until 1970 and then worked for the Edgar Co-op until his retirement. He enjoyed working around his house and spending time with his family.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Strasser, Edgar, Yvonne (Sanford) Beard, Wheaton, Illinois; two sons, Gerald (Gloria) Karlen and Eugene (Debbie) Karlen, all of Edgar; 11 grandchildren, Timothy Knauf, Rhonda (Jim) Grabko, Sheila (Gary) Brewster, Pamela (Brian) Engel, Jason and Christopher Strasser, Craig Karlen, Scott (Korie) Karlen, Amy (Rich) Lang, Amanda Karlen and Angela Karlen; 10 great grandchildren, Heather, Tyler and Logan Engel, Hannah and Kyle Brewster, Mitchell Grabko, Briona and Jada Lang, and Brandon and Darin Karlen; two sisters, Adelaide Schara, Marathon, Mildred (Adolph Jr.) Gruny, Marathon; and three brothers, Alex (Lorraine) Karlen, Marathon, Joseph (Dorothy) Karlen, Wausau and Edwin (Jeanette) Karlen, Stevens Point.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 15, 2003 at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. Rev. Norman Bonick will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar and again on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of services at the church. There will be a Parish Vigil service 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Edgar funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Palliative Care in Marshfield.
