Carey, Dorothy Mae (Temple) (22 NOV 1940 - 8 OCT 2018)

Dorothy Mae Carey, age 82, of Stratford, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, at Marshfield Medical Center.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018, at Saint Andrew’s Catholic Church in Rozellville with Rev. Sengole Vethanayagam presiding. Burial will follow in the Saint Andrew’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday at the church in Rozellville from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

The honor of pallbearer belongs to Dorothy’s grandsons, Steven Carey, David Carey, Joseph Carey and Alex Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters, Natalie Thompson and Kassidy Thompson. Laurel Carey and Michael Thompson will be presenting the readings for the service.

Dorothy was born on Feb. 28, 1936, in East Chain, Minn., the daughter of Arthur and Alta (Mapson) Temple. After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in education, Dorothy worked as an elementary school teacher for 10 years. On May 6, 1967, Dorothy was united in marriage to Gerald “Jerry” Carey in East Chain, Minn. She stepped away from teaching in order to devote her time and talents in raising her family and being a dedicated wife and mother.

She was a member of Saint Andrew’s Catholic Church, a longtime member of the American Dairy Goat Association, a leader in 4-H for over 30 years, and a current goat superintendent for the Wisconsin Valley Fair held in Wausau.

Dorothy’s hobbies included cooking delicious meals for her family, canning her tomatoes which always tasted better than anything from a can and camping. By far her greatest love was her two sets of “kids”. First, her children and grandchildren, and second, her prized champion dairy goats. She loved to brag about both.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry of Stratford; her children, Tim (Laurel) Carey of Stratford and Lisa (Michael) Thompson of Stratford; her grandchildren Steven, David, Joseph, Alexander, Natalie and Kassidy; her two brothers, Paul (Mary) Temple of Post Falls, Idaho, and William (Patricia) Temple of Duluth, Minn.; along with many other nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Alta; a son, Scott in 1991; a daughter in infancy in 1969; and brother-in-law, Robert Carey.

If desired, memorials in Dorothy’s name are being accepted by her family to either The National Kidney Foundation or to Saint Andrew’s Catholic Church.

Her arrangements are under the care of Life Tributes Funeral Home-Spencer.
