Roger J. Nowak, age 73, of Edgar, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, at Pride TLC Assisted Living in Weston.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cassel with Rev. Robert Streveler presiding. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

The honor of pallbearer will belong to Brett, Caleb, Kolby and Jaden Koeller, David Schara and Joseph Nowak III.

Roger was born June 20, 1945, in Wausau, the son of Joseph and Clara (Knetter) Nowak. Growing up on a dairy farm, he helped his parents with day to day chores and making hay. He was an Edgar High School graduate. Roger was united in marriage to Carol Schara on Aug. 27, 1966, in Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Halder. He was employed at Pine Valley Cheese Factory right after high school and later did maintenance at Pauly Cheese Company in Wausau. Roger retired from Foremost Farms in Milan where he worked as an intake specialist in 2008.
He was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cassel.

His hobbies included tinkering in the garage and was pretty handy as an auto mechanic, loved watching his grandkids sporting events especially basketball and cheering on his favorite NASCAR driver. He loved to entertain those around him by playing his concertina. At one time Roger was a concertina player in a local concertina club.

Survivors include his loving wife, Carol of Edgar; daughter, Gloria (Cabot) Litzer of Marathon; son, Scott Nowak of Wausau; grandchildren, Brett (special friend Lisa Krautkramer), Caleb, Kolby and Jaden; two brothers, James (Patty) Nowak of Stratford and Robert (Norma) Nowak of Edgar; along with other nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Brandon; a brother, Joseph Jr.; and a sister-in-law, Debbie Nowak.

His family extends their appreciation to the staff at Pride TLC Assisted Living in Weston for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Roger during his residency there.

His arrangements are under the care of Life Tributes Funeral Home-Spencer.
