Cuban, Kathryn “Jo” Joanne (Staudacher) (6 JUL 1934 - 25 OCT 2018)

Kathryn “Jo” Joanne Cuban passed away Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018.

Kathryn was born July 6, 1934, the first daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Cox) Staudacher, of Holcombe. She graduated from Holcombe High School, Class of 1952, and joined the Navy around 1954. While stationed at NAS San Diego, Calif., she worked the base photo lab as a photographer’s mate, and developed a lifelong love of taking pictures. It was there she met and worked with a young sailor from Pittsburgh, Penn., Anthony “Tony” Cuban. They married and settled in the area to spend the remainder of their lives.

Tony and Jo had two children, Michael and Tracy, who presented them with five grandchildren and later, great-grandchildren.

Jo would come “home” to Wisconsin to visit nearly every summer for a week, and would delight us all with her presence, as well as presents. She worked for many years in elementary schools in the San Diego, Calif. area. She also worked with Project Wildlife and was known affectionately as “The Bird Woman of San Diego.” Anyone with a sick or injured bird, or critter, seemed to know where to find her.

She is survived by her son – Michael (Julia) Cuban, Coronado, Calif.; daughter – Tracy Mundy, San Diego, Calif. area; their families; sisters – Jean (Pete) Wolfe, Cornell, and Carol (John) Bell, Holcombe; brother – David (Susan) Staudacher, Holcombe; and a slew of nieces and nephews, who all have Aunt Jo memories to share.

She was preceded in death by her husband – Tony; her parents; and a younger brother – Henry John Jr.
