 Archie Donald Melvin (28 Sep 1916 – 3 Jul 1997)

Archie Donald Melvin, 80, Abbotsford, died on July 3, 1997, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

Funeral services were held July 7 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford.  Rev. Al Jakubowski presided.  Burial was in the Abbotsford Public Cemetery.

Archie Melvin was born on Sept. 28, 1916, in Jackson County, the son of James and Lydia (Whitney) Melvin.  He attended area schools and was a member of the U.S. National Guard in Abbotsford from 1933 to 1936.  Archie and the former Elaine Klettner were united in marriage on April 22, 1941, in Wausau.  They farmed in the Town of Holton and he was employed with the Melvin Company of Abbotsford.  He worked as a patrolman for the Town of Holton for 28 years and retired in 1983.  Archie enjoyed woodworking and crafts in his shop and also repairing cars.  He was a member of the Edgar Steam Engine Club and St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.

Archie is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elaine Melvin of Abbotsford; two sons, Donald Melvin of Abbotsford and Dennis (Annette) Melvin of West Bend; one daughter, Delores (Duane) Umlauft of Sherwood; one brother, William (Marge) Melvin of Kansas City, Kan.; one sister, Elizabeth Hemphner of Florence, S.C.; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Lillian Melvin and grandson, Daniel in 1964.

Pallbearers were Raymond Orth, Rodney Umlauft, Richard Gierl, Bernard Kunze, Robert Rueden and Duane Underwood.
