Awe, John A. (29 NOV 1893 – 20 AUG 1974)

Services for John A. Awe, 80, of route 1, Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), were held at 11 a.m., Friday, August 23, 1974 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Longwood.

The Rev. David E. Wenger, pastor, officiated at the final rites, and military services were conducted by the Van Huizen-Fritz American Legion Post 123 of Owen, at Riverside Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Sam Munson, Jim Peterson, Wilton Karlen, Sabin Scherf, Henry Anderson and William Hoeper.

Mr. awe passed away Tuesday, August 20, 1974 at the Veteran's Hospital in Madison.

The deceased was born in the town of Green Grove (Clark Co.) on November 29, 1893. After his marriage to the former Hilda Bredeson on June 18, 1924 at Thorp, he lived in Owen, where he worked as a truck driver for the Cities Service Gas Company.

He lived in Curtiss from 1934 until 1936, when he moved to Withee and worked for the Western Condensing Company of Owen. In 1951 he moved to a farm in the town of Longwood and was employed on road construction until his retirement in 1956.

A veteran of World War I, Mr. Awe was a member of the Van Huizen-Fritz American Legion Post of Owen, of which he served as post commander in 1967. He served as assessor for the town of Longwood for a number of years, and was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Longwood. The Awe's recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.

Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Victor (Virginia) Perman, St. Paul; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Domer, Eau Claire, and Mrs. Don (Hilda) Bochanan (?)

Preceding him in death were four sisters, a brother and a granddaughter.
