Cornelius, Elmer "Duke" (26 APR 1914 – 20 APR 1970)
A former Abbotsford (Clark Co., Wis.) resident, Elmer "Duke" Cornelius, died of 
a heart attack in Marshfield.
He was prounounced dead on arrival at St. Joseph's Hospita at 5:41 p.m. Monday.
Funeral services are being held at 2 p.m. today, April 23, at Immanuel Lutheran 
Church. The body will be taken from Hasen Funeral Home at Marshfield to the 
church at 11a.m.
Mr. Cornelius was born at Little Black in Taylor County on April 26, 1914. He 
received his education there.
On June 22, 1935 he was married to the former Ardyce Goldamer, who died April 8, 
1958. On spet
6, 1959 he was married at Marshfield to Mrs. Helen Leicht, who survives him.
He operated Duke's Bowl at Abbotsford, and in the early 1950' moved to 
Marshfield, where constructed two motels. He ran the Marshfield golf course, and 
at the time of his death, operated the Stardust Motel at Marshfield.
Mr. Cornelius was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Marshfield, at its 
choir, and had served on the church board. He also belonged to the United 
Commercial Travelers and Elks Club, and was a trustee on the Marshfield house 
authority.
He also played in the Civil Air Patrol band at Marshfield, and a number of other 
bands, as a cornetist.
Surviving, besides his wife, are three sons, Tom of Menomonie, and Charles and 
Joseph at home. There is one grandchild.
Also surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Cornelius of Marshfield, and 
two brothers, Arthur of Clearwater, Florida, and Clarence of Milwaukee.
