Gwiazda, Judith A. (14 JAN 1944 – 2 NOV 2019)

Judith Ann (Meeker) Gwiazda, age 75, of Stanley, WI, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on November 2, 2019, with her daughters by her side.

She was born in Stanley, WI on January 14, 1944, to Cecil and Edna (Kroeplin) Meeker. She graduated from Stanley-Boyd High School in 1964, after which she married her first husband, Raymond Saunders. They lived in St. Paul, MN where she worked as a teacher's aid. Together, they had two daughters: Lisa and Sheila. She moved back to Stanley in 1980, where she met and married her second husband, Michael Gwiazda. They lived in Thorp, WI and were active for many years in the American Legion Post 118. They moved to Stanley in 2016, where they lived until her passing.

Judy will be remembered as a fun loving, kind-hearted woman, with a generous spirit, and a wonderful sense of humor. She had a stubborn streak inherited from her equally stubborn mother, which she graciously passed down to her daughters, granddaughters and great- granddaughters.Judy had a soft spot for animals, babies, and Elvis. She was loved and will be missed by many.

She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Michael Gwiazda of Stanley; two daughters: Lisa (Michael) Sitter of Cottage Grove, MN and Sheila (Rolf) Ward of Woodbury, MN; three step-children: Doreen (Dean) Dus of Cadott, Brian (Bonnie) Gwiazda of Navarre, FL, and Lorie (Michael) Gwiazda of Holcombe; 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; two brothers: Marvin (Betty) Meeker of Grand Junction, CO and Chester (Sandra) Meeker of Stanley; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by parents; five siblings: Waneta Gwiazda, Rose Kotbra, George Meeker, Lester Meeker and Sharon Lange; and two step-sons: Michael and Jeff Gwiazda.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at Thorp Funeral Home on Saturday, November 9, 2019. Pastor John Sindler will officiate and a private family burial will be held in Holy Trinity Ukrainian Cemetery, rural Thorp. Pallbearers will be Rolf Ward, Kevin Booth, Michael Sitter, Phillip Sitter, Logan Sitter, and Olivia Sitter. Visitation will be held at Thorp Funeral Home, on Saturday, from 9 a.m. until time of service. There will be a Thorp American Legion Auxiliary service held at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m.
