Luchterhand, William/Caroline (Reunion – 14 September 1975)

A family reunion was held by the descendants of William and Caroline Luchterhand, who were among the earliest settlers of the Loyal area. There are 11 children in the original family, all of them are now deceased. Two had no family, but there was a good representation of relatives descends from each of the other nine children.

The reunion was held in the fellowship hall of Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal, Sunday September 14. As those in attendance were preparing to enjoy a twelve o’clock potluck dinner, they received a long distance call from a cousin, Mrs. Lucille Skriver of El Segundo, California, extending good wishes to all present.

“America the Beautiful” was sung by the group, with Mary Luchterhand leading. A German table prayer was read by Louise Luchterhand. This prayer had been heard by many of the relatives when their grandfather said grace at his table many years ago. Louise translated it into the English language so that it could be understood by the younger relatives.

After dinner all present introduced themselves, and the afternoon was spent in getting acquainted and visiting. There were 75 relatives present; most are planning to attend next year’s reunion. An afternoon lunch was served. Many thanks go to Mrs. Elsie Herdrich and Mrs. Garth Luchterhand who planned this happy reunion.
