Missling, Douglas J. (19 MAY 1940 – 19 FEB 2020)

Douglas J. Missling, 79, Longwood, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2020, at Aster Assisted Living in Marshfield, under the tender care of hospice. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, March 7, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood. Rev. Elizabeth Biers will officiate. Military Rites will be conducted by the Owen American Legion Post #123, Owen-Withee Vets Club, and the Lublin American Legion Post #547. Family and friends are welcome from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church. Interment will be held at a later date.

Doug was born on May 19, 1940, in Longwood, the son of Herbert and Lempi (nee Wepling) Missling. He graduated from the agriculture short course at UW-Madison. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, from 1963-65. On Oct. 2, 1965, Doug married Carol Wendt in Greenwood. Doug farmed for 59 years on the home farm in Longwood. He was a member of the Owen-Withee Lions Club, church council, Holstein Association, and Longwood Town Board. He was a delegate for Tri-State Breeders and a Sunday school teacher. Doug enjoyed dart ball, softball, bowling, farming, card playing, camping, and fishing.

Doug is survived by his three daughters: Debbie (Rod) Englebretson of Owen, Michelle Carpenter of Abbotsford, and Susanne Lilly of Port Washington; six grandchildren: Devon Englebretson of Hortonville, Derek Englebretson of Marshfield, Elli Carpenter of Abbotsford, Hunter Carpenter of Abbotsford, Mason Carpenter of Abbotsford, and Conner Lilly of Port Washington; two great-grandchildren: Archer Englebretson of Marshfield and Caleb Englebretson of Hortonville; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Thomas.
