James Ludwig (29 Oct 1928 - 12 Oct 2012)

James “Jim” J. Ludwig, 83, Buena Vista, Colo., died on Friday, Oct. 12 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 18 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Buena Vista. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

James Ludwig was born on October 29, 1928 in Stetsonville to the late Louis Vincent and Bertha (Peissig) Ludwig. He attended school in the Town of Little Black, graduated from Medford High School in 1946, and from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1956 with a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering.

In 1950, he married Mickey Cerise, who preceded him in death in 1993. He worked at the Climax Mine in their management training program and then at Climax Molybdenum Company, retiring in 1983. He also founded and developed the Pleasant Avenue Nursery which he ran until the 1990s, wrote and published three books, and was instrumental in building and landscaping St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. In 1995, he married Eleanor (Lofquist) Kochevar.

Survivors include eight children, Debra Ludwig, Stephen, and Gary (Mary), all of Buena Vista, Linda (Jim) Mahon of Kremmling, Colo., Kedran (Mark) Kuzelka of Omaha, Neb., Christine (Rich) Carpenter and Melissa (Thomas) Surface, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four step-children; 18 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, The American Diabetes Association, Living Waters Hospice of Buena Vista or St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
