Gumz, Mr./Mrs. Herman (40th – 17 JUN 1971)

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Gumz, Abbotsford, observed their 40th wedding anniversary Thursday, June 17, 1971, and celebrated the event Saturday evening with a family gathering and supper at their home.

Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Gumz and family, Dorchester; Mr. and Mrs. Don Fink and family, Mr. and Mrs. James Apfelbeck and family, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Gumz and Judy, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Gumz and family, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Gumz and family, all of Colby; Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Geber and family, Dorchester; Selma Gumz, Dorchester; Bill Gumz and Dawn, Dorchester; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gumz and Richie, Dorchester; and Glen Krikilo and family, Stetsonville.

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Gumz were married June 17, 1931 in Peace Evangelical Church, Dorchester. They took over the “old homestead” arm near Dorchester, which has been the family farm for four generations. They are the parents of five children: Dorothy, their first born, died when 3 days old, Herbert, Mrs. Don (Janet) Fink, Lester and Mrs. James (Doris) Apfelbeck, and 13 grandchildren.

The couple retired from farming in 1957 and built their new home in Abbotsford, where they now reside.

Mrs. James Apfelbeck baked and decorated the anniversary cake.
