Carpenter, Cathryn (28 SEP 1886 – 25 AUG 1965)

Funeral services for Mrs. Cathryn Carpenter, 78, of Colby, formerly of Abbotsford, who died at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, Wednesday, August 25, 1965, at 10:55 a.m., were held Saturday morning. The Rev. John Pinion officiated at the mass of requiem at 1:30 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby. Mrs. Carpenter was a member of St. Mary’s congregation.

The body lay in state at the Polnaszek Funeral Home, Abbotsford, where a general rosary service was held Friday evening at 8:30.

Six grandsons served as pallbearers for the interment which was made in the Colby St. Mary’s Cemetery: Alan Brunkhorst, Wales, Mark Carpenter, Colby, Michael Kramer, Fond du Lac, Lawrence Vandehey, Auburndale, Leonard Vandehey Jr., Loyal, and William Young Jr., Colby.

The former Cathryn Pommerick was born September 28, 1886 at Fond du Lac, was educated there, and married there February 3, 1909 to Frank Carpenter.

In 1918 they moved to Withee and in 1924 came to Abbotsford. The family lived for a few years at Edgar, and later returned to Abbotsford. Seven years ago Mrs. Carpenter moved to Colby.

While in Abbotsford, Mrs. Carpenter was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Ladies’ Altar Society. She was also a member of the Abbotsford camp of the Royal Neighbors of America.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Arlyn (Cathryn) Brunkhorst of Abbotsford, Mrs. Leonard (Ione) Vandehey of Auburndale, Mrs. William (Evelyn) Young of Colby, and Mrs. Myron (Marie) Kramer, Fond du Lac; two sons, Clarence, Abbotsford, and Frank, Colby; 30 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in the spring of 1945. Three brothers and three sisters also preceded her in death.

Relatives from away who came for the funeral came from Fond du Lac, Auburndale, Milwaukee, Green Lake, Marshfield, Loyal, Minneapolis and Sarasota, Florida.
