Georgas, Edna B, (17 September 1908 - 9 April 2000)

Edna B. Georgas, age 91, of Neillsville, died Sunday, April 9 in the Emergency Room at the Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville.

Edna B. Bruss was born on September 17, 1908 in Neillsville, the daughter of Robert A. and Emma K. (Lipkie) Bruss. She attended Public Grade School and St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran School in Neillsville, graduating from Neillsville High School in 1927. For three years, while attending high school, she worked in the offices of Bruley Elevator So., Neillsville and Eau Claire, also the Wasserburger General Merchandise Store, and Clark County Insurance Agency in Neillsville.

Edna was united in marriage to Elmer A. Georgas on July 28, 1940 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Stevens Point. Elmer enlisted into the United States Navy in 1942 and in 1944 Edna joined him in South Carolina and New Orleans, LA where Elmer went abroad ships and she continued to work for the Commissioning Detail under civil service until July 1945. In November of 1945, the war ended, and they purchased the Jaster Funeral Home on January 1, 1946. In 1948, Edna received her Funeral Directors License. In August 1963, they purchased the Bergeman Funeral Home on 4th St. and did extensive remodeling. In 1974 they sold their funeral home on 5th St. to Attorney Donald Johnson. On January 1, 1975 they retired and sold the funeral home to Lowell Gesche, who had worked for the Georgas’ for 11 years. They built their home on Ayers St. in 1975 and in 1982 they sold their home and moved to Mesa, Az for 23 years. They returned to Neillsville in 1999.

Edna was a life-time member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville. She volunteered as a Gray Lady at the nursing home for 25 years and she was also a member of the Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post #73 Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband Elmer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bruss.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville. Pastor Timothy Biebert will officiate.

Casketbearers will be Rex Roehl, Orville Evanson, Leon Schnabel, Bill Welch, Vince Weber and Wilmer Kroll. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Visitation was from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday at the Gesche Funeral home and from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Edna’s family with arrangements.
