John Kaltinger was born in Pod Brdo, Austria, March 19, 1879. His father was Tom Kaltimacker. The name was changed to Kaltinger when he came to the United States April 4, 1904. His mother was Mary Bizjak.

Mary (Cudez) Kaltinger was born January 21, 1885 in Gorenca Vas, Austria. Her grandfather was Lukas and grandmother was Mina Korcic. Her father was Joseph Cudez and mother was Elizabeth Demshar. Mary Kaltinger was one of eleven children. The oldest and youngest were boys, Joseph and Jack. There were nine girls between. She still has one sister, Kathy, living in Skofja Loka, Jugoslavia.

John and Mary Kaltinger were married October 11, 1905 at St. Madiline Catholic Cathedral in Salt Lake City, Utah. John worked in the smelters in Utah until he became very ill. The doctor ordered him to get out into the country. It was then that Mr. Kaltinger read in the Slovenian paper about land for sale in Willard. In 1914 they bought forty acres and the family moved to Willard. Mr. Kaltinger's health improved after being in the fresh country air.

There tem children born. In Utah were born: John, Mary, Ella and Rudy. Rudy passed away at age three. In Willard were born: Josephine, Rudy, Elfred, Louise, Lillian and Alvin. On May 18, 1918 a tornado moved the house. Mr. Kaltinger had his hand on the door knob to enter the house when the tornado moved the house.

The senior Kaltingers lived on the farm until June 1953, when they moved to Greenwood to live out their remain¬ing years. John passed away April 9, 1963. Mary passed away September 13, 1974.

The home farm still remains in the family. Alvin who married Lucille Landini lives there.
