Anton Krainz was born June 16, 1879 in Jugoslavia. He came to the United States in November 1902 settling in Scammen, Kansas.

Catherine Mazzatti was born June 19, 1879 in Italy. She came to the United States in the fall of 1903.

Anton and Catherine were married in Columbus, Kan¬sas on December 28, 1907. Anton worked as a coal miner in Kansas. In 1914 he came to Willard to look at land but returned to Kansas for a year. 1915 again brought them to Willard and they purchased 40 acres in the Town of Hendren, Section 26. This is now the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Krainz and family. The land was purchased through Ignac Cesnik.

For two years they lived in Willard in the John Vessel house which is the present farm home of Jerry Lamovec. During this time they cleared land and built a house. In 1920 they bought more land from Allec. In 1933 they bought another 60 acres from Anton Yamnich for $350.00. When Mr. Krainz heard this land was for sale he was going to take the train to see Mr. Yamnich. When he got to Merrillan he had scrips and no money. No one would cash scrips for the train fare so he returned home. He got John Horvat Jr. to drive him to West Allis to see Mr. Yamnich with a Model A car. This time the mission was accomplished.

Mr. and Mrs. Krainz adopted Antonia and Valentine Platisha on September 20, 1919. They resided on the home farm until 1947 when they moved to Greenwood.

Mrs. Krainz passed away April 30, 1950. Mr. Krainz passed July 10, 1969.

Antonia married John Kaltinger and they moved to Greenwood.

Valentine married Helen Horvat on January 21, 1942 in Willard. They lived on the Krainz home farm until December 1968, when their son Robert took over the farm.
