His brother Joe was instrumental in his coming to the United States to West Mineral, Kansas in the county of Cherokee. He lived there with Mr. and Mrs. George Malnar. Jack bought some land in the Willard area in the Town of Hendren in 1914 where he settled and lived for many years. He was also a coal miner and in 1918 he was badly hurt by a fall in a coal mine in Catlin, Vermillion County, Illinois, he was married to Appalonia Horacek who died several years later.

Years later he married Frances Stimac and they resided in Willard. In the earlier years he also worked in the harvest fields around New England and Dickinson, North Dakota where he had some close friends. Jack passed away and is buried in the Greenwood cemetery.
