Joseph and Mary Ule came to Willard in 1912. Joseph was born in Begunje (then Austria) March 3, 1883, son of Anton and Rose (Krainz) Ule. He came to Lorain, Ohio with his brothers Anton and Frank in 1908. He worked in Lorain as a tool maker. There he met and married Mary Lovko, a childhood sweetheart in 1907. Mary was born August 9, 1887 in Cerknica (also Austria) to John and Jvana (Rozanc) Lovko. She came to the United States in 1906 with her uncle also settling in Lorain where she worked as a dressmaker. A daughter, Matilda, was born October 18, 1908 followed by a son Joseph January 2, 1910 and another daughter, Mary, February 7, 1912.

In their quest to own a farm of their own, they learned of a fellow Slovenian selling land in far off Willard. Joseph left first to purchase a tract of land in the Spring of 1912. Mary followed, arriving in November with their three small children.

Olga was born August 28, 1915; Alice, April 1, 1924 and Edward, August 9, 1925. Joseph Sr. was active in a men’s chorus in Ohio and also in Willard. He was an active member of the Holy Family Church and served on the church board in 1934. Joseph was also a member of the school board of the North Willard School. He helped organize and build the North Hendren cheese factory.

Matilda married Ralph Garner at Westend, California. She died September 29, 1976. Joseph of Plymouth, Wisconsin married Mildred Heideprim. He died August 11, 1979. Mary of Chevy Chase, Maryland married Elmer Finstad. Olga of Willard married Joseph Hribar. Alice of Greenwood married Clayton Braun. Edward lives in Minneapolis.
