Hunt, Dayton H. (21 July 1928 – 20 July 2001)

Dayton H. Hunt, 72, of 208 S. Franklin St. Stanley, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.

He was born on July 21, 1928, in Chippewa Falls, to Vida (Smith) and Harry Hunt. He grew up in rural Chippewa Falls, att4ending area schools and graduating from Chippewa Falls High School in 1946.

On Oct. 7, 1950, he married Marjorie Rosenthal in Chippewa Falls. He worked at O.K. Tire Shop and as a milk hauler, then as a farmhand. They moved to Stanley in 1961 and he worked on a farm north of Stanley, which they purchased in 1966 and farmed until 1985. At that time, they moved to Stanley, where they have lived since.

He was a bus driver for Stanley-Boyd schools for 31 years, many of which he drove the sports bus. He also worked as a milk hauler for his son, and a clerk in the local hardware store.

He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and camping, and especially his grandchildren. He served as a 4-H leader for many years, and also on the church council for Epiphany Lutheran Church several terms, holding several offices.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, of 50 1/2 years; his children, Linda (Donald) Hakes of Stanley, Donald (Elaine) Hunt of Thorp, Sally (Lanse) Carlson of Stanley and Larry (Lynn) Hunt of Barron; his 10 grandchildren, Shawn, Chad and Brad (fiancée Michelle) Hakes, Christy, Kristopher, Donald (DJ) and Isaac Hunt; and foster-grandson Paul Durand; his sister, Betty (Walter) Gerber, and brother, Vern (Milly) Hunt, both of Chippewa Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Nine (Arnold) Kressin, and a daughter, Shirley Ann, in 1968.

Grandsons serving as pallbearers will be, Shawn, Chad and Brad Hakes, Erick Carlson, and Kris and D.J. Hunt.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Stanley, with Pastor Gary Paul and Pastor Fred C. Sauder presiding. Visitation will be Monday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Plombon Funeral Home in Stanley and one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
