Smale, Angeline (11 April 1907 – 27 October 1976)

Funeral services were held Saturday at 11 a.m. from St. Mary’s Catholic Church for Mrs. Clair (Angeline) Smale, 69, of Neillsville, who died Wednesday, October 27, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield following a lingering illness. The Rev. Joseph Henseler officiated, and burial followed in the parish cemetery. A Christian wake service was held Friday evening at the Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home, where the body of Mrs. Smale was in state.

Born April 11, 1907, in Neillsville to John and Mary Lauer Miller, she attended Catholic grade school and Neillsville High School. For a time, she taught school in the rural Neillsville area. Her marriage to Clair Smale took place May 27, 1927, in Neillsville.

The Smales moved to Iowa in 1942 and lived there for years before returning to Neillsville to live. Mrs. Smale was employed at Memorial Hospital for several years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and of its P.C.C.W.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Georgia Ann) Zank of Red Wing, Mn., three sisters, Mrs. Russell Shaughnessy of Milwaukee, Katherine Shaw of Minneapolis, Mn., and Mrs. Arthur (Agnes) Knutson of Ft. Ransom, N.D.; one brother, Albert Miller of Neillsville; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Fred Wall, Martin Feuerstein, Ray Burr, Walter Aumann, Gerald Schmidt and Ed Zank. Mrs. Glenn Short was the accompanist for St. Mary’s Choir.
