Boie, Gerald Dean (5 April 1931 – 3 March 2021) With Flag

Gerald Dean Boie, 89, of Stanley went to be with the Lord on March 3, 2021, at home surrounded by his loving family. His heart of gold was tired, and his hard-working hands are now at rest.

He was born on Easter Sunday, April 5, 1931 to the late Harry and Myrtle (Edwardson) Boie on a curve in the road on the way to Stanley hospital. He would often joke that he was a “bad egg” and that he’s “been trying to get his head on straight ever since”. He grew up in the Town of Worden and lived there most of his life. He attended the wonderful grade school of Busy Bee for 8 years and then went to Stanley High School under Mr. C.W. Dodge. Dean then joined the local National Guard and enjoyed the 3 years he served. In January 1953 he met the love of his life Joyce Tyler and they married in December 1954. Out of this marriage, they had six beautiful children, 3 boys, and 3 girls.

Dean was a farmer all of his life, he bought more land than his wife could handle, milked cows 7 days a week, and enjoyed every minute of it. He served on the Stanley-Boyd School Board for 6 years and got quite an education himself. He was also on the Stanley City council for 6 years and joined the Stanley Lions Club and was a member for 25 years. During his time as a Lion member, he sold a lot of raffle tickets for the Watermelon Festival that produced a lot of winners, but he and Joyce didn’t win until 2020 when Joyce finally won. Dean was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church for all of his 89 years. He was a member of the church council 3 different times and during one of those times in 1988, they built the new front entrance on the church and worked on the cemetery committee. Since retirement, he enjoyed many happy days with his wife, his kids, and grandkids and loved each of them dearly. He also enjoyed playing cards and games with his family and their dear friends. Dean has always loved the outdoors he especially enjoyed gun and bow hunting and it always made his day shooting bigger bucks than his grandsons. He truly felt the Lord was good to him and had carried him for his 89 years.

Dean is survived by his wife Joyce of 66 years, his children Kathy (Al) Pinter of Stetsonville, Diane (Carl) Orth of Burnsville MN, Michelle Boie of St. Paul MN, Jeffrey (Beth) Boie of Thorp, and James Boie of Stanley, 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren and 2 on the way, numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many dear friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one son Thomas, brothers Norval and John, and his sister June (Jack) Larson, and a great-granddaughter Holly.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Stanley, with Pastor Ken Schmidt officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery at a later date. A Visitation will be held from 4-8 on Friday at Plombon Funeral Home-Stanley, and for one hour before service on Saturday at the church. Due to COVID masks as well as social distancing will be required

We have lost a father, grandfather, uncle who was a very generous, loving, and kind-hearted man. We would like to thank everyone who took the time to share their kind words, prayers, and stories of dad with us. We also wish to thank all of you who sent a card or dropped off food to our family. Dad lived a long, blessed life and he was able to do it on his terms and for that we are grateful.

A special thanks to Pastor Ken Schmidt for the beautiful service for dad, and to Our Saviors Lutheran Church family for their love and compassion, Hartland Hospice for the quality, compassionate care they showed dad and all of us, and Plombon Funeral Home for all of their kindness.
