Stanley, Wisconsin, Aug. 1, 1912 – Fred Griffin, Town Marshal of Owen, Wisconsin, was shot and probably fatally wounded by three highwaymen just after he had place them under arrest for holding up Henry Petke of Withee, Wisconsin.
