Richmond, Kathie Kay (Marriage - 18 September 1976)

Miss Kathie Kay Richmond of Wisconsin Rapids and Robert Edward Sparkes of Junction City were married Saturday, September 18, in a 2 p.m. ceremony performed at the Granton United Methodist Church by the Rev. William Noble. Later, the newlyweds were honored at a reception at the Loyal American Legion Hall.

The bride, presented in marriage by her father, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Richmond of Granton. The groom is the son of Mrs. Peggy Sparkes of Junction City and the late Roland Sparkes.

For her wedding day, the bride chose a white empire style gown fashioned with a lace and beadwork-embellished bodice, lace-trimmed A-line skirt and short train. Her matching veil flowed into a long train. Yellow, orange and white gladiolas formed her bouquet.

Bridal attendants included Miss Karen Richmond of La Crosse as maid of honor and Miss Carole Richmond of Wisconsin Rapids, Miss Nancy Sparkes of Junction City, Miss Theresa Zdun of Milwaukee, Mrs. George Konkel of Stevens Point and Miss Barbie Richmond of Neillsville as bridesmaids. Their empire style gowns in shades of orange, blue, green, yellow, lavender and pink, respectively, featured white lace and matching ribbon trim and were complimented by matching hats. They carried white baskets with white daisies and carnations tinted to match their dresses.

Gerald Weber, Auburndale, served as bestman. Groomsmen were Dick Vruwink of Milwaukee, Marv Richmond of Granton, Dennis Fredl of Rudolph, Mike Young of Marshfield and Rick Hotchkiss of Wisconsin Rapids. Darrell Berg and James Steuck shared ushering duties.

Mrs. Roger Helm was the organist and Miss Barbie Richmond, the vocalist.

Karen, Carole and Barbie Richmond were prenuptial shower hostesses.

The new Mrs. Sparkes graduated from Granton High School in 1971 and from Mid-State Technical Institute, Wisconsin Rapids, in 1973. She is employed as secretary-bookkeeper at a farm supply firm in Vesper. Her husband, who graduated from Auburndale High School in 1971 and from the Wisconsin Rapids Institute in 1976, is employed as assistant manager of a piano and organ company in Wisconsin Rapids.

The couple will live in Vesper upon returning from a wedding trip out west.
