They farmed in the Town of Unity until 1947. He was postmaster of Riplinger for 20 years after his marriage, was chairman of the Town of Unity, supervisor of shipping associations and the school board, also serving as treasurer of St. John's Church in Riplinger. He retired in December of 1967.

The couple has three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Merle) Colby and Mrs. Robert (Lyla) Burke, both of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Russell (Ramona) Bruhn, Marshfield, and one son, Orville Domer of Kimberly. There are six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
