Cantrell, Randal (Jake) (19 April 1926 - 2 January 1977)

Funeral services are to be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 1 o’clock from the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta for a former Neillsville postal service employee, Randal (Jake) Cantrell, 50, who succumbed to an apparent heart attack Sunday evening at his home in Fairchild. The Rev. Joe Mason of Fairchild will officiate, and burial will follow in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

The body of Mr. Cantrell was to be in state at the Anderson Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon and evening and until time of the service today (Thursday).

Born April 19, 1926, in Hamilton County, Il., to William Henry and Alma Cantrell, he served in the U.S. Army from August 12, 1944, to January 6, 1946. Mr. Cantrell was employed at the Veterans Hospital in Tomah from 1950 to 1958 before beginning his employment at the post office in Neillsville in 1959. On January 3, 1976, having suffered a heart attack, he applied for sick leave, and never recovered sufficiently to return to his job as custodian.

His marriage to the former Norma Seefeldt took place in 1949. She preceded him in death. He was married to the former Rona Flick, who survives, in 1972.

Mr. Cantrell was president of the Fairchild Rod and Gun Club, was adjutant of the Legion post, and was a member of the Fairchild bicentennial committee.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, Rona, include two sons, Randal William Cantrell of Granton and Charles Scott Cantrell of Waupaca; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Henry Cantrell of McLeansboro, Il.; two stepsons, David Flick of Fairchild and William Flick of St. Paul, Mn.; one stepdaughter, Miss Connie Jo Flick of Fairchild; and two step-grandchildren. He is further survived by one brother, Donald Cantrell of Enfield, Il.; and two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Davis of Omaha, Il., and Mrs. Eugene Allen of Norris City, Il.
