Wolter, Hugo (16 Aug 1896 – 22 Feb 1976)

Hugo Wolter, a resident of the Wolter Corners area in the Town of Longwood for the past 77 years, died at 1:15 p.m., Sunday, February 22, 1976 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire, where he had been a patient the last two weeks. He had been in ill health the past year, suffering from a heart condition.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 24 at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee. The Rev. Lloyd Yaggie, parish pastor, officiated, with burial being made at Riverside Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Noah Zimmerman, Walter Emmerson, Arles Offord, Art Peterson, Leo Stewart and Don Rusch.

Hugo Wolter, 79, was born August 16, 1896 at Fall River, Wisconsin. He moved to the Town of Longwood in 1899, where he attended the Poppe School, and then pursued farming as a vocation. He was active in the affairs of the Nazareth Lutheran Church, of which he was a charter member, and its Men’s Club.

On June 18, 1918 he and the former Edna Gautsche were united in marriage, but the marriage was short lived, as she passed away two years later, on November 21, 1920. On December 12, 1922 he re-married, exchanging vows with Tena Moen, who also preceded him in death, having passed away April 5, 1966.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Glen (Valera) Von Wald, Eau Claire; a granddaughter, Mrs. Steven (Diane) Decker, Eau Claire, and a grandson, Richard Von Wald, also of Eau Claire.

He was preceded in death by a brother and seven sisters.
