This is the largest hotel near railway depot at the corner of Clay and Seventy streets, occupying his own building, two stories and basement, fronting 80 feet, including the new addition on the east side, and extending 70 feet in depth.

The first floor is taken up with the office and lobby, bar, two dining rooms, kitchen and ladies’ parlor, also has twenty-five bedrooms on the upper floor, including ten in the new part which have all been newly furnished within in the last year and those in the new part this season being up-to-date, while both floors are provided with hot and cold water; also bath and toilet rooms, etc, are heated throughout by hot water system, also well lighted by gasoline on both floors, using F. P. lighting system of Cincinnati, O.

The two dining rooms (when new improvements are completed) will seat thirty persons, an excellent call bill of fare being provided and on special days, including public holidays, meals have been served for more than 100 people who come from the surrounding towns within a distance of 25 miles as far as Marshfield, Merrillan, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Owen, Withee, Thorp, Abbotsford and other places and this house has a good transient trade from grip travelers from many parts of the country.
Mr. James Paulus has had a life-long experience in the hotel business, having formerly conducted the O’Neill House (oldest in the city) for five years, being widely acquainted with the traveling trade through the country, and has been a resident of Neillsville for 38 years. His business the past season has been steadily increasing, being much larger than last year, which necessitated the present enlargement of hotel, the new addition being 20x40, the lower part of which will be used for kitchen and laundry, while both floors will be provided with modern conveniences, making when completed one of the best equipped hotels in the city and his prospects for the coming season are better than ever.
