NHS Class of 1937 (40 year Reunion - 1977)

The Neillsville High School Class of 1937 observed its 40th anniversary at the Wildcat Inn on Saturday evening, July 2, with 64 guests present.

Registration and cocktail hour began at 6:30 with name tags presented to each member. Dinner was held at 7:30 with a special program and gifts; a dance followed at 9:30, Orville Evanson, Wausau, and Robert “Stir” Wagner, Eau Claire, were co-masters of ceremonies.

The invocation was given by Frederick Stelter. Tables were decorated in the class colors of gold and blue, with blue candles in gold decorative holders and baskets of gold, blue and white flowers. Introductions were given by members and their spouses, with comments about their activities the past years and where they were from.

Gifts were presented to First reservation - “Stir” Wagner; longest distance traveled – Mrs. Jane (Huntley) Ramsey, Barstow, Ca., and Roland Eberhardt, Eugene, Or.; recently married – Mrs. Marlene (Stanley) Bernett; longest married – Mrs. Lillian (Bieneck) Diers; most children – Mrs. Barbara (Grzanna) Crockett; most grandchildren – Frederick Stelter.

Those in attendance for the reunion were: Robert “Stir” Wagner, Eau Claire; Mr./Mrs. (Bernice Rupprecht) Schaub, Milwaukee; Mrs. Betty (Schmedel) Christensen, Wauwatosa; Mr./Mrs. J. (Dolores Prock) Mckenzie, Bettendorf, Ia; Mr./Mrs. Roland Eberhardt, Eugene, Or.; Mr./Mrs. Elmer (Alice Sollberger) Hoesly; Mrs. Dorothy (Mott) Anderson and guest, Madison; Mr./Mrs. Chester VandeBerg, Forest Park, Il.; Mr./Mrs. Wm. Those attending from Neillsville were Mr./Mrs. Frank Zank, Mr./Mrs. Charles (Lillian Bieneck) Diers, Mr./Mrs. Frederick Stelter, Mr./Mrs. George Pagenkopf, Mr./Mrs. (Gladys Seif) Rychnovsky, Mr./Mrs. Allen (Barbara Grzanna) Crockett, Mr./Mrs. Gale (Marlene Stanley) Bernett, Mr./Mrs. William Neville, Mrs. Doris (Lastofka) Thornton.

Other guests were Dr./Mrs. Carroll Schield, Mrs. Betty Free, Mrs. Marion Arndt, and Miss Ramsey, Barstow, Ca. Teacher guests were Mr./Mrs. John Perkins, Neillsville. Letters were read from Mr./Mrs. C.J. Winkley, Clinton, and Mr./Mrs. Donald E. Peters, who were unable to attend.

A moment of silence was observed in memory of deceased classmates: Robert Baumann, Wayne Brown, Clarence Collins, Lowell Huckstead, Robert O’Brien, Wendell Palmer, Gail Preston, Donald Vine and Dale Zuege.

Special thanks went to Orville Evanson and “Stir” Wagner for fine program and to the following committee members: Doris Thornton, Lillian Diers, Gladys Rychnovsky, Elda Morley, Fritzie Stelter, Frank Zank, George Pagenkopf and Ruth Smukal. The Class of 1937 had not held a reunion for 20 years.
