Greenwood FFA Winner (Soil Judging - 1977)
The Clark County Soil and Water Conservation district sponsored a land judging
contest, July 1, held on the Henry Seebandt farm, Rt. 2 Neillsville. Eight FFA
teams were represented at the contest.
Greenwood’s FFA chapter finished first in the contest, followed by the teams
from Spencer and Abbotsford. Other teams participating were from Loyal, Granton,
Colby, Neillsville and Thorp. Top individual went to Dan Trunkel, Greenwood. The
Neillsville chapter served as home team. The contest was postponed from June 30
because of wet conditions.
Judge of the judging contest was Soil Scientist John Langton of the Neillsville
Soil Conservation Service office. The young people were scored on their ability
to judge the soil texture, color, and structure, as well as for decisions they
made in regard to land usage. The purpose of the contest was to familiarize the
students with the soils of Clark County and to impress on them the importance of
wise land use decisions.
