Berg, Jeanette (14 March 1931 – 28 August 2023)
Jeanette Berg of Strum, died on Monday, August 28, 2023.
Jeanette was born on March 14, 1931, in Gary, Indiana, to August and Mary
(Bergant) Stremikis. When she was nine years old, the family moved to an 80-acre
plot of woods in Willard, and began breaking the land and farming. She graduated
from Greenwood High School in 1949 with honors and lifelong friends. She went to
State in original oratory in forensics and enjoyed playing accordion and drums,
and singing in the choir.
After graduating, she enrolled in the pre-nursing program at Eau Claire State
Teachers College, which is now UW-Eau Claire. She graduated from the Luther
Hospital School of Nursing in Eau Claire in 1952. After working several years as
a surgical and maternity nurse at Luther Hospital and Director of Nursing at the
Buffalo Mondovi Hospital, she enrolled in the nurse anesthesia program at the
Minneapolis School of Anesthesia graduating in 1967. She worked for several
small area hospitals administering anesthesia for surgical patients before
retiring in 1996 from the Eau Claire Anesthesia Group. She ‘could honestly say
she enjoyed the many years of anesthesia service.’ She had been a nurse for 44
years.
Jeanette married her very good friend Perry Berg on August 28, 1954, at Immanuel
Lutheran Church, Strum. They lived in Strum until buying a dairy farm in rural
Osseo, which was originally The Berg Farm. Together they enjoyed traveling the
United States, and abroad, including twice to Norway and to Slovenia - both
countries of their ancestors. They returned with many interesting stories of
their trips. Jeanette moved to Strum after Perry died in a tragic tractor
accident in September 2002.

Jeanette was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the American Nurses
Association, the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiologists, and the local
AMCS. She served as County Chairman for two years and had two terms on the
Wisconsin State Cancer Board. She was president of the church women’s
organization for a number of years, arranged the funeral luncheons, sang in the
choir, and enjoyed organizing the yearly women’s bus trip to outings in the Twin
Cities.
She is survived by her sister Virginia (Vernon) Gilbertson, nephews Larry
(Diane) Gilbertson, George (Jill) Gilbertson, James (Linda) Gilbertson, nieces
Elaine Spiegel, Linda (Rusty) DeBroux, Carol (Randy) Krause, Carla (Jon)
Grabanski, cousins, grandnephews and grandnieces, and a host of friends.
Special thanks to Jeanette's caring Strum neighbors for looking after her in her
later years, and seven decades of fellowship through Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Thanks also to the caring staff at Dove Health Care in Osseo where she lived the
past three months leading up to her death from aging and COVID.

Keller, Sharon Lee (22 February 1941 – 25 August 2023)
“Don’t make a big fuss.”
Sharon L. Keller, approximately 82 years of age, passed away peacefully in the
early hours of Friday, August 25, in her home under the presence, care and love
of her family.
Sharon’s exact year of birth is debated. However, she was born on February 22,
possibly in 1941, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was a fighter from the beginning,
right up to the end, having battled through adversity her whole life, including
cancer in her last years, doing so with humor and care only for others.
Throughout her life, she was an award-winning dog breeder, professional
seamstress, commercial truck driver, civil war re-enactor, caretaker, but most
importantly, a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her siblings:
Steve, Randy, Linda, and Tamara; her children, John and Lisa; as well as a small
army of grandchildren: Patrick, Sarah, Rachel, Mellisa, Bethany and Chavah; and
three great-grandchildren, Annemarie, Charlotte and Erick.
Sharon did not wish for a “big fuss” to be made about her, both in life and
after. However, a memorial service will be held next spring. In the meantime, if
you wish to honor her memory, you may do so by enjoying an ice-cold root beer
float, showing an unwavering love for your family and sharing the warmth of a
smile. Just as she did.

Rahm, Ruthanne Kay (26 July 1947 – 27 August 2023)
Ruthanne Kay (nee Hansen) Rahm, Age 76, passed away peacefully on August 27,
2023, at The Waterford at Colby where she resided for the past 16 months.
Ruthanne was born July 26, 1947, in Spencer, the daughter of Harold and Mildred
Hansen. She was a graduate of Spencer High School. She married Richard Rahm in
May 5, 1968, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Marshfield and was widowed in 1983.
They had one son, Todd Rahm.
Ruthanne enjoyed working in customer service at Karau’s Warehouse and
Pick-n-Save. She was employed in the Accounting Department at the Marshfield
Clinic and retired after 20 years. After retirement, she enjoyed being her son’s
“right-hand man” as she enjoyed yard work, especially mowing lawn, shooting
pool, muscle cars, riding with her son in his semi, dancing and attending pulls
to watch her son pull his mini rod. She especially enjoyed watching her
granddaughters grow up.
Those who will cherish her memory include her son, Todd (Doddie) Rahm of Loyal;
her granddaughters, McKenna Rahm of Neenah and Morgan Rahm of Eau Claire; her
sisters-in-law, Sandy Hansen and Joanne Rahm along with several nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Mildred Hansen; her husband
Richard Rahm; her brothers, Ray, Allen and Donnie Hansen; a sister Nancy and a
brother-in-law, Emery Rahm.
Todd and Doddie would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Waterford
at Colby where they treated Ruthanne like she was their mom. Also, a special
thank you to Promedica Hospice staff for all they did for her. We are so
grateful she had the best care from both Waterford at Colby and ProMedica
Hospice.
Funeral Services for Ruthanne will be held at 6:30 PM on Friday, September 1,
2023, at Life Tributes Funeral Home in Spencer. Family and friends are invited
to gather at the funeral home for a time of visitation from 4 P.M. until time of
service.

Turenne, Todd Robert (28 November 1954 – 13 August 2023)
Todd R. Turenne, age 68, of Thorp, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at
his home.
Todd Robert Turenne was born on November 28, 1954, at Victory Memorial Hospital
in Stanley, the son of Robert L. and Patricia M. (Bogumill) Turenne. He was
raised in Thorp, attended St. Bernard's Catholic School, and graduated from
Thorp High School in 1973. After completing his education, Todd worked at the
Clark County Health Care Center as a Certified Nursing Assistant until retiring
in 2005. He then worked part-time for his uncle at the Turenne Family Preserve
in Hawkins.
He had many interests, but especially enjoyed antiquing, growing flowers, and
enjoying nature.
Todd is survived by his daughter: Natasha Joy Badzinski-Schultze (Tom) of Thorp;
4 granddaughters; 3 brothers: Scott (Kathy) Turenne of Stanley, Bruce Turenne
and Gary Turenne, both of Thorp; his close friend: Bryan Kell of Eau Claire;
nieces, nephews, other relatives, many friends, and his cat Murphy. He was
preceded in death by his parents; one brother: John Turenne; special friend:
Judy Abramowicz; and his companion Terry Riphenburg.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Thorp
Funeral Home in Thorp. Pastor Randy VanDeLoo will officiate, and burial will
follow in St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the
funeral home on Friday from 12 noon until time of service.

Kessler, Louis (15 December 1931 - 27 August 2023)
Louis (Lou) William Kessler, 91, of Neillsville passed away at Riverside
Assisted Living after a lengthy illness August 27th, peacefully, surrounded by
his loving family. Lou was born in 1931 to parents Carl and Clara (Wasserburger)
Kessler of Neillsville.
Lou attended St. Mary's Catholic grade school and graduated from Neillsville
High School in 1950 where he enjoyed participating in sports, FFA, and had a
wide group of friends. During his senior year, he caught the eye of a special
girl, Shirley Davis, and they married in 1954 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Neillsville, where they were lifelong members.
Lou grew up dairy and crop farming with family on the outskirts of Neillsville.
He enjoyed a long successful career primarily in agriculture-related businesses,
first with Grassland Feeder Pigs, working with his brother Leo and cousin Harris
Schoengarth, as a dealer buying feeder pigs and selling them to finishing farms
primarily in Iowa. He won many wagers from farmers for accurately guessing the
weight of a wiggling pig just by lifting it up by its back foot. He translated
that in later years to guessing the weight (accurately!) when holding his young
grandchildren. Later, he was a salesman for Harvestore Systems for many years,
earning several awards and trips he took with Shirley and friends. He then sold
water systems for Kinetico. Over the years Lou knew most of the farmers in Clark
and surrounding counties.
He was very active socially and physically. Lou served in the National Guard
32nd Division in the 1950s. As longtime members of the Neillsville Country Club,
he learned the game of golf at age 26 and played regularly with Shirley, their
children, and countless friends. He enjoyed bowling and played in the softball
"Liniment League" for many years. He coached his sons for Little and Big League
baseball and for St. Mary's School football. In his later years he was tapped by
St. Mary's Parish to serve as St. Nicholas each December and fully embraced his
role. He was also a Knight of Columbus and regular usher for the church. He
volunteered at The Highground Vietnam Veteran's Memorial. Lion's Club, Jaycee's,
and the Neillsville Men's Club were all important activities for Lou.
In 1972 Lou and Shirley purchased the Silver Dome Ballroom in Neillsville and
hosted weekly polka dances, rock bands, wedding receptions and other civic
events for 28 years. He was very proud of their ownership and stewardship of the
unique and historic building.
To his family and friends, he was "Big Lou." When people met him, they all
remembered his strong handshake. He was generous with his time and always ready
with a witty joke or retort. He adored his children, grandchildren and great
grandchildren, attending many concerts, plays, sporting events and just enjoying
their time together.
He is survived by his adoring wife Shirley of Neillsville; sister-in-law Linda
Davis, Eau Claire; children Shari (Richard) Brauch, Monticello, MN; Jeffrey
(Sara) Kessler, Onalaska; Jane (Dan) Flynn, Eau Claire; grandchildren Clare
(Kellen) Clawson, Mount Juliet, TN; Sloan Kessler (Jordan Entwisle), St. Louis
Park, MN; Bennett (Lindsay) Kuhlman, Chippewa Falls; Briana Kuhlman, St. Paul,
MN; step-grandson Carson (Meghan) Flynn, Durham, NC. He was a very special "G
Gpa" to his great grandsons James and Decker Clawson and Declan Kuhlman. He is
also survived by cousins and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Clara (Wasserburger) Kessler,
brothers and sisters Leo, Carl Jr., Ken, Mildred Schwellenbach and Elaine Hass;
brothers-in-law Ronald Davis, Forrest Larsen and Ernie Schwellenbach;
sister-in-law Maggie Kessler and son Steven ("Little Lou").
Shirley and the family thank the staff of Riverside Assisted Living in
Neillsville and the hospice team of Compassus for taking such great care of
Lou/Dad/Grandpa/Great Grandpa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, September 16th at St.
Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville with a visitation from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. A private gravesite burial will follow. Memorials
can be directed to the La Crosse Diocese Seminarian Vocations program or
recipient of the donor's choice.

Lane, Steven Mark (19 June 1957 - 29 August 2023)
Steven Mark Lane, 66, of Thorp, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at
home, in Thorp after an extended illness with his loving family surrounding him.
Steve was born on June 19, 1957, in Stanley, the son of Fred D. and Laura C.
(Mock) Lane. He was raised in Stanley and received his education at Stanley area
schools. After completing his education, he remained in the area and resided in
Thorp. Steve worked as a logger for most of his working years, then worked
several years at Thorp Equipment until he retired due to extended illness. Steve
married his wife, Kim McCue on October 26, 1979, in Chippewa Falls. The two have
been together for 45 years. Steve was classic car lover, enjoyed hunting and
fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Kim, of Thorp; 1 daughter, Misty (Josh)
Lane, of Eau Claire, 2 sons; Michael (Randi) Lane of Rhinelander, Mason (Jen)
Lane of Rhinelander, 8 grandchildren, Sheyne, Benson, Breanna, Chantz, Louis,
Dawson, Baylynn and Koda; 3 siblings: Joyce Slowatyniec of Neenah, Donald
(Cindy) Lane of Stanley, Beverly (Bill) Abramczak of Thorp, 2 sisters-in-law:

Stanley with visitation from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and a service at 1 p.m. His burial
will follow at the Eidsvold Cemetery in Thorp.

An author whose name is lost to history once wrote, “Grandparents are the
footsteps to the future generations.”
First raising their children, grandparents pass down values that shape and form
the generations that come after them. For Emma Moen, the granddaughter of Kathy
and Frank Moyer, her grandparents taught her many of the values she tries to
live by and inspired her and the rest of the Moyers’ grandkids to follow their
example.
The Moyers were selected as this year’s Honored Grandparents by the Granton FFA
Alumni. The couple will be honored during the Granton Fall Festival Sept. 8-10.
They will be recognized at the Queen coronation held Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. in the
Granton Fire Hall and will be included in the Fall Festival parade on
Grandparent’s Day, Sept. 10.
Emma wrote this year’s winning essay about her grandparents after trying for
their nomination for the past several years.
“These two people have supported my sister and I so much growing up,” reads an
excerpt from her nomination letter. “They were always there for rides and to
babysit. They show up to every school and sporting event that they can. My
grandma always sends encouraging text messages before any event we have. They
love it when the whole family can get together, even though it gets quite crazy.
We definitely have had our fair share of bumps in the road, but nonetheless we
always get through it much stronger. My grandparents have done an amazing job of
creating a gracious and loving family.”
Frank grew up in Drummond and graduated from Drummond High School in 1971. After
graduation, Frank said he went into the Marines where he served for 12 years,
being stationed in San Diego, CA. Once he was discharged from the service, Frank
came back to Wisconsin, working at various companies until his retirement.
“I was about two months out of school before I joined the Marines,” he said.
“[Afterwards,] I actually didn’t have a career; I started working odd jobs here
and there. I had special training in communications (in the military), but back
then it was hard to get into communications. They weren’t hiring back then.”
“My grandpa Frank is one of the kindest and most generous people there is on
this earth,” Emma wrote about her grandfather in her nomination letter. “This
man will give anything for the people he loves without hesitation. He spoils all
us grandkids and great grandkids rotten. He will support any decision and life
adventure you may have, and he always makes sure everyone is happy and
comfortable. My grandpa is an amazing storyteller; he loves creating wild
stories that will entertain anyone.”
Kathy is a native of Medford and graduated from Medford High School in 1986. She
worked in the medical field throughout her life, getting her start as a
volunteer medical aide in high school. She retired from Marshfield Clinic three
years ago and has since been enjoying retirement with her husband.
“My grandma Kathy is one of the strongest and most passionate people that I
know,” read Emma’s letter about her grandmother. “She had been through many
hardships in her life but remains very happy and uplifting. Her laugh is very
contagious, and her attitude boots your spirits any time you’re around her. I
value her strong work ethic and devotion to her religion. She has taught me many
valuable lessons in my life, whether she knows it or not. My grandma is also a
great cook. My favorite food is her chili; no one else’s chili compares.”
Before meeting Frank, Kathy had three children, whom she was raising on her own.
They met, the couple said, due to connections already established between their
two families. They were married Aug. 15, 1987, and just recently celebrated
their 31st anniversary.
“My uncles and her family were very close,” said Frank. “Our connection with our
families brought us together.”
“I had been married before and had three kids,” Kathy added. “But Frank stepped
in and took on the role as a father. I’m lucky to have him.”
The Moyers were surprised with the news of being chosen as the Granton Honored
Grandparents at a cookout with the whole family, which included three children,
seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family has many such
get-togethers, Kathy said, so it was not until someone asked the question, “You
know why you’re here, right?”
Then the pair began to think there was more going on.
“I had gotten a text the Thursday before because Emma was going off to college
soon and the family had said it would be a good sendoff,” said Kathy. “We get
there, and they ask, ‘You know why you’re here, right?’ It made us question why
we really were there. Then they told us.”
“It was a nice surprise,” added Frank.
While Emma and the other grandchildren and great-grandchildren have learned much
from their grandparents, Kathy and Frank said there is much that they appreciate
about all of them.
“They’re all hard workers,” Kathy said. “They don’t ask for much. We try to
always be there for them if they ever need help. But it goes the other way too.”
“You might say they take care of us now,” Frank said. “None of the grandkids
give up on what they do. They don’t expect things to be handed to them. They
work hard for what they have. We enjoy just spending time with them, fishing,
camping. We love our grandkids.”
When they are not spending time with their kids and grandkids, Kathy and Frank
spend their time with each other and helping out the community with various
projects. Frank mows lawns around Granton, Kathy assists at her church, and both
help with cleaning the Granton Fire Hall and Village Hall when the need arises.

Geiger, Dale J.(14 August 1944 – 30 August 2023)
Dale J. Geiger, age 79, of Dorchester, passed away on Wednesday, August 30,
2023, at Aspirus Medford Hospital.
Dale was born on August 14, 1944, the son of Clarence and Lucy (Keller) Geiger
in Dorchester. He was united in marriage to Donna Theilig on April 8, 1972, in
Colby. Dale worked in construction, building barns and roads, worked at Meyer
Manufacturing and Lumber before farming in the town of Mayville for many years.
Dale was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. He enjoyed fishing,
hunting and spending time at the cabin he built. Most importantly, Dale loved
and cherished his family.
Dale is survived by his wife of 51 years, Donna; three children: Vicki (Chris)
Michaels of Colfax, Monica DeGroot of Waterford and Pete (Nycole) Geiger of
Withee; nine grandchildren: Myranda (Nick) Verheyen, Willie Michaels (fiancé,
Abby), Angela (Alex) Dickson, Jennifer (Brad) Kamp, Christina Michaels, David
(Angel) DeGroot, Hannah DeGroot, Nathan DeGroot and Zachary Geiger (Lilly
German); two great-grandchildren: Greyson Geiger and Scott DeGroot and one due
in November. He is further survived by his sister, Janice Schmelzer of
Burlington and his brother, Rick Geiger of Spokane, WA; nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 8,
2023, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Abbotsford. Father Timothy Oudenhoven
will officiate. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Cemetery. Family
and friends are welcome from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the Church.
