Marden, Charles E. (14 January 1897 – 18 September 1977) With Flag

A farmer in the Town of Hewett for many years, Charles E. Marden, 80, of Neillsville, died Sunday, September 18, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield following a lingering illness. Funeral services were to be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from Zion American Lutheran Church in the Town of Pine Valley with the Rev. Ronald Nordin of Calvary Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was to be in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

The body of Mr. Marden was in state in the Georgas-Gesche Funeral home Tuesday evening and until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, when it was taken to the church to lie in state there for an hour before services.

Charles Marden, son of George and Minnie Schuelke Marden, was born January 14, 1897, in Clark County and was educated in local schools. After completing his formal education, he farmed in the Town of Hewett, then entered military service September 4, 1918. Upon his discharge on March 10, 1919, he returned to Clark County and resumed farming in the Town of Hewett until his retirement.

Mr. Marden was married to the former Emma Gehrt on October 12, 1937, in Neillsville. They moved to the city in 1968. He was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church in the Town of Pine Valley.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Mrs. Leo (Betty Jane) Lindner of Eau Claire and Jana Lee Marden of Neillsville; and three grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Ernest and Earl.
