Hein, Kittie Luella (2 September 1886 – 9 January 1978)

Mrs. Kittie Luella Hein, Scott City, Ks., and formerly a Humbird resident, died in the Scott County Hospital on January 9, at the age of 91 years. The Weinman-Price Mortuary of Scott City arranged for cremation. Interment of the remains will be in the Mentor Cemetery at Humbird following memorial services planned to be held in Humbird sometime in May.

Kittie Luella Phillips was born in Mr. Sterling, on September 2, 1886, one of five children. She was living with her parents, Sylvester and Rhoda Phillips, on their Jackson County farm, across the road from the Zerbel farm, when she met and married William F. Hein, of Humbird in 1907. They then lived on the Hein place near the old mill on Lake Emerson. Here they lived, except for a period pending the rebuilding of the old home, which burned in 1915, until 1973. During most of this time, William was the mail carrier on Rt. 1 Humbird.

In 1973, the rigors of old age and several years of ill health for Mrs. Hein dictated leaving Humbird to be near their daugher, Beth, in Kansas. Mrs. Hein enjoyed the years with her daughter, Beth, in Kansas, even though her health continued to deteriorate.

In her earlier years, she was a member of the Methodist Church, the Royal Neighbors and the Excelsior Club. Last October, the couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary and Mr. Hein’s 95th birthday in December. The couple was honored as king and queen of the Humbird Centennial Celebration in 1969.

Mrs. Hein is survived by her husband, William F. Hein, Scott City, Ks.; a sister, Cora B. Stanley, Memorial Home, Neillsville; a daughter, Beth Jeffery, Scott City, Ks., a son, Colonel (Ret.) Neil F. Hein, Chipita park, Co., two grandsons, Jim Jeffery, Scott City, Ks, and Neil F. Hein, Jr., Stockton, Ca,, and three great-grandchildren.
